True Gent Protective Tattoo Film is a breathable polyurethane second skin film designed to protect fresh tattoos while supporting the natural healing process.
Suitable for use during the initial tattoo aftercare stage, this transparent protective film helps create a barrier against dirt, friction, and outside irritation while still allowing the skin to breathe comfortably. The waterproof yet permeable material helps retain the skin’s natural fluids while allowing airflow and perspiration throughout healing.
Designed to sit closely against the skin, the flexible film moves comfortably with the body and allows visibility of the tattoo without needing to remove the dressing. The transparent finish also makes it easier for artists and clients to monitor the healing area during wear.
The 15cm x 10m roll format allows artists to cut the required size depending on the tattoo, making it suitable for both smaller tattoos and larger pieces. For studios looking to buy reliable tattoo aftercare supplies in the UK, True Gent Protective Tattoo Film offers a practical option for everyday tattooing and healing support.
Compatible with standard tattoo aftercare routines, this disposable second skin film is suitable for professional tattoo artists, tattoo suppliers, and UK distributors looking for dependable tattoo healing products at a cheap and accessible price point.
Directions for application
- Allow the tattoo to bleed for around 10 minutes before application
- Gently clean and fully dry the tattoo and surrounding skin
- Apply the film with the protective side facing downwards while peeling away the backing paper
- Press down the edges firmly, ensuring at least 3cm coverage around the tattoo
- Peel away the top protective layer
Directions for removal
- Warm the skin using clean warm water to soften the adhesive
- Carefully peel the film back slowly towards the centre while remaining parallel to the skin
- Apply additional warm water if needed
Usage information
Carry out a patch test before use. The film can typically be worn for 8-24 hours depending on tattoo weeping. Reapply as needed over the next 6-7 days. Replace immediately if the film becomes loose, dirty, or excessively saturated.
Aftercare FAQs
Second skin tattoo aftercare is a breathable, waterproof adhesive film applied directly to a fresh tattoo. The second skin film creates a sterile, sealed environment that locks in the body's natural healing plasma, protects the tattoo from bacteria and friction, and lets clients shower and sleep without messy wrap changes, the modern professional standard for tattoo aftercare.
Professional tattoo artists recommend second skin because it reduces scabbing, locks in colour saturation, and cuts down on the daily washing and balm routine that traditional tattoo aftercare requires. Second skin heals tattoos faster and more consistently, which is why most modern UK tattoo studios make second skin film the default aftercare in their kit.
The first second skin dressing typically stays on a fresh tattoo for around 24 hours to collect the initial plasma. After that, a fresh piece of second skin film is applied for a further 3 to 5 days. Do not leave a single piece of second skin on longer than 5 days, the tattoo needs air once the heaviest weeping is over.
To apply second skin to a new tattoo, clean and fully dry the freshly tattooed skin, then peel the backing off the second skin film and lay the adhesive side down with about a 2cm border around the tattoo. Smooth out any bubbles and peel away the top liner. A well-applied piece of second skin is airtight and watertight, ready for showering and normal daily wear.
Yes, second skin helps reduce tattoo scabbing. By keeping the tattoo in its natural plasma layer rather than letting it dry out, second skin film prevents the heavy scabs that come with traditional wrap-and-balm tattoo aftercare. Less scabbing means better colour retention and a smoother heal, which is why professional tattoo artists rely on second skin.
Dry healing leaves a fresh tattoo uncovered so it air dries, which usually leads to thicker scabs, more itching, and a longer overall heal. Second skin tattoo healing keeps the tattoo in its natural plasma layer under a breathable, waterproof film, so the tattoo stays moist, scabs less, and colour stays sharper. For professional tattoo artists, second skin tattoo healing gives a more predictable, lower risk heal than dry healing, especially across colour saturation and fine line work.
